There’s one thing you shouldn’t do if you’ve got a bottle of Baileys, this Christmas
It’s officially Christmas, which means that we must celebrate the birth of the baby Jesus Christ, and also enjoy having a drink or two more than normal.
But there is one alcoholic drink that sits above the rest as one of the main festive choices – this is, of course, Baileys.
The creamy drink is a nice base to have with hot chocolate or coffee around Christmas, and so it is also a common festive gift.
Even if you haven’t been gifted one, you might have one ready for the holiday season, and fair enough.
The nation-wide favourite will help bring a lot of people happiness this Christmas Day (25 December), as families will cheers to the famous celebration, before digging into a feast, prior to the annual Christmas coma.

However, there is something that people keep making a mistake with when it comes to getting rid of the drink, especially once the celebrations are over.
Understandably, once you’re into the New Year and faced with the cold, harsh light of January, it doesn’t seem like a very appropriate drink, and it becomes the thing that remains in your fridge for months on end.
That’s a bit of a problem, though, because Baileys does have an expiration date, and if you are getting rid of it, there’s something you absolutely shouldn’t do.
While the drink company itself says it has a shelf life of two years from the date of bottling, opened or unopened, there are others who warn that you’d better quaff the lot within six months.
As a general rule of thumb, if the bottle is unopened, then it might be alright for two years, but once opened, you should probably finish it off within six months.
The drink contains dairy cream, which goes bad over time, and since you don’t want to chug a rancid drink, you might end up having to chuck it out.
Now, normally you’d think about pouring the expired beverage down the kitchen sink and sticking the bottle in the recycling, but according to the Daily Mirror, that’s not what you should do.

They report that tradesmen from MyBuilder.com have warned that Baileys can ‘wreak havoc’ with your plumbing, and even end up blocking your pipes.
Since dairy cream contains a lot of fat, it puts Baileys in the list of things that should never go down your sink.
The big three are fat, oil, and grease; they’re not good for your pipes, and can end up clogging your plumbing up which is really not what you need at this time of year, or any time really.
If you want to get rid of old, rancid Baileys properly, it seems as though the proper method is to pour the liquid contents into a container and then chuck that in your bin.

Brits urged not to travel on major routes from 1pm today
Several areas of the UK are set to be affected
Brits have been urged not to travel on major routes around the UK from 1pm today, as warnings are issued by experts.
The AA has also predicted that from this afternoon (20 December), traffic is set to make roads across Britain grind to a standstill.
This is, of course, due to the mad rush of people acting in the tradition of Chris Rea and driving home for Christmas.
According to the AA, today is set to be the busiest day on the roads throughout the festive period.

The AA has said an estimated 23.7 million drivers are expected to hit the roads as the mad dash to make it home for Christmas next week begins.
The breakdown coverage experts have also revealed where the major hotspots for traffic are set to be, i.e. where you should avoid unless you want to spend five hours sitting in your car to move about two miles at most.
The roads to avoid that are likely to face the most congestion
- The M4/M5 interchange near Bristol
- The M25 near Heathrow Airport
- The M5/M6 interchange near Birmingham
- The M4 around Cardiff and Newport
- The M60 near the Trafford Centre in Manchester
- The M1 near Meadowhall in Sheffield
- The M8 between Edinburgh and Glasgow
In addition to this, the RAC and Inrix, a data analytics firm that provides information on traffic hotspots, have also identified the M3’s junction between the M25 and the south coast, the M25 anticlockwise between the junctions linking to the M1 and M23, and the M53 from Chester to Liverpool as hotspots for queues today.
In the annual journey home that many British motorists will face this coming weekend, extra care should also be taken due to the weather conditions.
The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings across parts of the UK, with some reports stating that winds of up to ‘85mph’ are set to batter the country.
Saturday’s (21 December) weather warning (Met Office)
Despite this, the Met Office guidance warns of a maximum of 80mph winds, and most areas covered expected to face winds of between 50 and 60mph.
While yellow guidance does not come with a risk to life warning, drivers should be aware of the potentially high winds when travelling.
This can cause travel disruption and delays to drivers and train passengers.
On Saturday (21 December), the affected areas mostly reside in North England, Scotland, and the north of Ireland.
On Sunday (22 December), the entire western half of Britain is set to be hit, along with the north of Ireland and all of Scotland.Featured Image Credit: Getty Stock Images

Doctor shares the one question that could determine if someone has a drinking problem this Christmas
If you’re concerned your relationship with alcohol is bordering on unhealthy, there’s one question you can ask
A doctor has shared the one question you can ask yourself, if you’re concerned whether your relationship with alcohol is becoming unhealthy.
While many of us enjoy a tipple or two over the festive period, it’s easy to overdo it and get carried away.
Speaking to LADbible, Dr Donald Grant, GP and Senior Clinical Advisor at The Independent Pharmacy, explained there’s one main question you can ask if you’re concerned about your own relationship with booze, or somebody else’s.

He explained: “As we approach Christmas, it can be a challenging period for anyone struggling with their relationship with alcohol.
“Typically, it takes a while before people notice their own dependence, but spotting it early can limit long-term health risks and help people take control of their lives.
“One of the main questions people should ask themselves is ‘Do I generally end up drinking more than I originally planned?’ as this can be a massive indicator of unhealthy dependence.
“Struggling to have only one drink can suggest a mental dependence on drinking and is a major symptom experienced by many alcoholics.”
Dr Grant explained there are two other questions you can also ask to help evaluate whether your relationship with alcohol is becoming concerning.

“Additionally, ‘Do I need to drink to feel happy or less stressed?’ is extremely important and can help identify whether an individual is using alcohol as a means to escape,” he explained.
“Alcohol should be used in moderation and as a way to socialise, opting to drink alone or often to avoid low moods can lead to excessive consumption and an even worse relationship with drinking.
“Finally, ‘Do I experience withdrawal symptoms when I don’t drink?’ is another crucial question people should ask themselves to uncover their alcohol dependence.”
Withdrawal symptoms can include sweating, anxiety and nausea, as well as loss of appetite and irritability.

While the pressure to drink can also increase over the festive period, Dr Grant explained having ‘open conversations’ with friends and family can help maintain a healthy attitude towards alcohol.
“In the long-term, misuse of alcohol can ruin lives – impacting relationships and job performance while posing numerous health risks such as liver damage,” he added.
“While there can be increased pressure to drink over the Christmas period, I strongly advise strict moderation and open conversations with friends and family to avoid peer pressure and maintain healthy attitudes towards drinking.”
Please drink responsibly. If you want to discuss any issues relating to alcohol in confidence, contact Drinkline on 0300 123 1110, 9am–8pm weekdays and 11am–4pm weekends for advice and support.Featured Image Credit: Getty Stock Images

Baby Guinness warning issued to millions of Brits ahead of Christmas
It could be a nightmare if this happens over Christmas
With the festive season rolling in, the parties and evenings at the pub are starting to kick off.
And while you and your colleagues sink a few drinks after work, or you have that night out with your pals ‘because you’ve got to do it before Christmas’, there’s always that one question that seems to be asked…‘Shots?’
I mean, we say it’s a ‘dreaded question’, but most of us are pretty to quick to nod yes. Maybe it’s a tequila or sambucca, or maybe it’s the biggie; the creamy Baby Guinness.
But before you go knocking them back this winter, there’s a warning issued to millions of Brits about the little stout-looking shots.
Can’t deny they’re tasty. (Getty Stock)
A Baby Guinness is of course made with two key ingredients: coffee liqueur and Irish cream, typically Bailey’s.
And plenty of British households tend to have a bottle of that open during the festive season.
But there’s one common problem people end up running into with the stuff – even if they’re knocking back loads of shots of it with their friends and family – and that’s the fact that we often don’t finish the full bottle
As lots of us convince ourselves we’ll be taking on Dry January, the Bailey’s ends up banished until next winter, with shots are certainly off the cards.

So, it ends up sitting neglected in your fridge for months on end.
That’s a bit of a problem though, because Bailey’s does have an expiration date, and if you are getting rid of it, there’s something you absolutely shouldn’t do.
While the drink company itself says it has a shelf life of two years from the date of bottling, opened or unopened, there are others who warn that you’d better quaff the lot within six months.

Now, normally you’d think about pouring the expired beverage down the kitchen sink and sticking the bottle in the recycling, but according tradesmen from MyBuilder.com, that’s the wrong thing to do.
They warn that Bailey’s and similar products can ‘wreak havoc’ with your plumbing, and even end up blocking your pipes.
Since dairy cream contains a lot of fat, it puts Bailey’s in the list of things that should never go down your sink, along with fat, oil, and grease.
So, either finish off the bottle with a few more Baby Guinnesses, or dispose of it properly.
Alternatively, you could buy this ‘Baby Guinness in a bottle’, just £20 on Amazon.
